If you are a foodie, you've surely heard of the famous Hyderabadi biryani. But don’t be surprised if Hyderabadi haleem soon joins the coveted list of the Nizam city's must-eats. With the Geographical Identity or the GI tag now being granted to this Ramazan-special dish, haleem is now officially a state asset of Andhra Pradesh.
Hundreds of workers work 12 hours a day during the holy month of Ramazan to cook up this special mutton and wheat delicacy. And thousands feast on it soon after the evening prayers. It’s so popular that hotels like this one have now taken the dish beyond borders, exporting it to the wide NRI market in the US and even the European Union.
They say there's no better time to visit the Nizam city than during festivities. The old city here literally does not sleep with so much available to shop and eat. And with the mouth watering haleem now patented as Hyderabadi haleem, foodies here have yet another excuse to order that extra plate of it.
