GE to set up power plant in Andhra Pradesh, India

US President Barack Obama says General Electric (GE) factory's India unit will manufacture advance turbines for a power plant in Samalkot, Andhra Pradesh, that would create some 1600 jobs.

Obama, who visited the factory in New York on Friday, said the GE deal was a result of his successful visit to India in November last year.

During his trip to India, he said, the US businesses were able to reach an agreement to export $10 billion in goods and services to India which is estimated to create some 50,000 jobs in the United States.

Obama also said the US economy was growing again after several years of recession. But he cautioned that it still had a long way to go to make up for the damage done by the financial meltdown.
